LinksMy style is quite impressionistic. I try to avoid putting in all those fiddly details, and instead concentrate on portraying the subject with as few strokes as I can. One spontaneous blob of paint is always more likely to create an exciting, enigmatic result than overworking to obtain a photo-realistic image. A painting is generally viewed from a distance of ten feet or more, so I only put in the details that really matter from that distance. The added bonus with this approach is that up close the surface of the canvas becomes a fascinating abstract mix of colours. I like that. Why did I become a painter? It's like any creative endeavour I suppose. Moliere said, "Writing is like prostitution. First you do it for love, and then for a few close friends, and then for money." |
